Here are some of the details: On or about June 25, 2010, the plaintiff, Jim Bussey of Brookshire, Texas, purchased and consumed an egg and sausage breakfast taco in Sealy, Texas. On or about June 26, 2010, Mr. Bussey began to suffer from severe gastrointestinal distress, including nausea, abdominal cramps and profuse diarrhea. On or about June 28, 2010, after his symptoms continued to worsen, Mr. Bussey sought medical treatment at a nearby hospital. Based on the severity of his illness, the decision was made to admit him for treatment and close monitoring. Mr. Bussey remained hospitalized until he was deemed sufficiently stabilized, and discharged on or about July 1, 2010. A stool sample was obtained during Mr. Bussey’s hospitalization and sent to a laboratory to be cultured and tested. After his discharge from the hospital, Mr. Bussey was notified by the investigating health agencies that he was infected with Salmonella enteritidis, and that his infection was part of the Salmonella enteritidis outbreak linked to defendant Wright County Egg. Mr. Bussey continues to suffer from ongoing Salmonella-related gastrointestinal issues.
