As of October 6, 2006, Friday, 199 persons infected with the outbreak strain of E. coli O157:H7 have been reported to CDC from 26 states. Ultimately, there would be 205 counted with 5 deaths.
Among the ill persons, 102 (51%) were hospitalized and 31 (16%) developed a type of kidney failure called hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS).
The Flathead City-County Health Department has increased the numbers of those sickened with E. coli O157:H7 for 14 to 22. Illnesses have been reported in Montana residents as well as people who visited Montana over the 4th of July week including Arizona, Oregon, Wyoming, Florida, Virginia and Canada.

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture warns consumers to immediately discard Meadow View Jerseys brand raw milk purchased between August 5 and 12, 2024, with a sell-by date of August 19, 2024. Routine testing for pathogens confirmed that the milk was contaminated with Shigatoxin-producing E. coli bacteria.

Unknown to most in public health in late December 1992, the San Diego County Department of Health Services was notified of a child with E. coli O157:H7 infection who subsequently died (Lauren Rudolph). Active surveillance and record review then identified eight other persons with E. coli O157:H7 infections or HUS from mid-November through mid-January 1993.
Our investigation thus far shows of the 14 illnesses, 11 are Montana residents, 1 Canadian, 1 Oregon and 1 Arizona (death). At this time it is likely that other states will report illnesses of people that visited Flathead County in late June through mid-July and who ate at one of the five restaurants.
