The numbers are staggering. Thirteen countries impacted this morning – so far. At least 2,871 Ill from E. coli O104:H4 of whom 755 have suffered Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). There are now 28 dead. These numbers are slowing, but continue to rise.
I find it amusing that farmers throughout Europe are standing in queue – hat in hand – when sprouts, lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes are still on the suspect list and do not eat list.
Yesterday when the number of ill, severely ill and dead was lower, I estimated that the settlement or jury verdict value of these cases would be near $3 Billion – today it is clearly more.
We count the victims, but pay the farmers – go figure.
