Whole Foods Market announces that it is recalling “Kenny’s Farmhouse Cheese KY BL” sold in its Louisville, KY store and “Blue Kentucky Rose Kenny’s” cheese sold in its Nashville, TN store. These cheeses are being recalled because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The recalled Kentucky Bleu cheese sold in the Louisville, KY, Whole Foods Market store, was cut and packaged in clear plastic wrap. It was sold with a Whole Foods Market scale label reading “Kenny’s Farmhouse Cheese KY BL,” with a PLU of 209578 and includes all “sell by” dates, which are noted on the scale label.
