Five cases of E. coli have been confirmed in Bell County, the Bell County Public Health District said Wednesday.

No other details were provided.

Most varieties of E. coli are harmless or may cause brief diarrhea, the health district said, and sometimes produce no symptoms at all, although the infection can be spread to others.

But a few strains can cause severe bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps followed by serious organ system damage such as kidney failure, the health district said.

Anyone with bloody diarrhea should seek medical care immediately, the health district said.

Has there been any new information posted about this outbreak as far as potential source and the strain involved?

Correction on the TV station: It should be KWTX out of Waco, Temple and Killeen. I haven’t been able to find a dang thing more about this. Not even a newspaper mention around here in SE Texas.
