It is not there responsibility to inspect shell eggs. Anything FSIS has regulatory authority over, it has the responsibility to provide daily, continuous inspection. USDA/AMS maybe, but not FSIS. Some have tried to throw them under the bus for this EGGbarrassment, but it is not their responsibility. And if Waxman, Stupak and DeLauro want to use their positions to cry out that shared responsibility has caused another break in our food safety network, all they have to do is go back and read the Egg Products Inspection Act and they will realize Congress created this dilemma, not USDA or HHS. Why does FSIS have Catfish, and FDA have Salmon. Why does USDA/FSIS have cattle and FDA has Bison. Congress.
