Marler Blog Providing Commentary on Food Poisoning Outbreaks & Litigation

Felix died of Listeria today because someone did not do their job

To anyone who works in the growing, manufacturing, shipping or selling of the food we eat, please realize how important your job is.  Felix’s mom should not have eaten cheese tainted with Listeria, which led to Felix’s premature birth and untimely death.  Felix’s moms should not have to bear this loss because someone did not do their job.

Felix, and mom above, became part of this Listeria outbreak:

As of September 26, 2012, a total of 18 persons infected with the outbreak-associated strain of Listeria monocytogenes have been reported from 12 states and the District of Columbia.

All 18 ill persons were hospitalized. Three deaths have been reported. Listeriosis contributed to at least one of these deaths. One fetal loss has been reported.

Collaborative investigation efforts of local, state, and federal public health and regulatory agencies indicate that imported ricotta salata cheese is the likely source of this outbreak.
