Would the Department of Homeland Security react with all the same resources and methods being used in the global war on terrorism? Would produce company officials find themselves rendered to CIA black sites for enhanced interrogation? Would there be a vegetable producers watch list? Would I have to take off my shoes when I go to buy vegetables? How many unqualified cronies does it take to completely dismantle an effective government agency?
Thank you George W. Bush!

I already have anorexic tendencies, but now I never want to eat again. What's the solution? To become a Mormon and stockpile a year's worth of food? Buy things in giant bulk and sample a small portion of each: if "clean," then I know I'm good to go eating the rest of it.

Sounds crazy? Just as crazy as what you've posted.

Except that what you say is entirely true.

And my idea is just a lame attempt at self-preservation....

Bravo, Mr. Marler. This outbreak clearly demonstrated the utter failure of our current administration. And I voted for him twice. The optimism and quality of the first term administration - including Secretary Thompson - gave way to incompetence in the second term. So very sad for the country.

Bill, I have been making the same point to people since the "E-Coli in Spinach" outbreak a couple years ago that I survived as a member of that industry. You have the platform and voice I would never have, to get this point across.

Now I am spending a lot of time as a consultant trying to help food manufacturers "see the light" and implement effective, low-cost Food Defense programs. (More info at www.bytesizeaudits.com, if you can print that URL).

Unfortunately, industry is no more interested than you portray government. Many ignoring the obvious, some paying a little lip service, and a few progressive companies doing something about it.
