Bill...have you ever REALLY considered the possibility that just maybe safe food cannot be produced on a corporate level...that the problems are inherent in CAFO type operations, and the veggie equivalant, and cannot be fixed?

Maybe...just maybe...food must be small scale produced to be safe. Lots and lots of small scale producers like me rather than the Dean Foods, the Tysons, the Nebraska Beefs, etc. can do a better, safer job.

Have you ever considered that some of us want to produce safe food because it's the right thing to do, rather than just to keep out liability premiums down?

I don't think that's too much to ask of our two candidates for President and ultimately for the winner. That shouldn't be too much for them to chew on. Speaking of chewing on things, I had some chicken and hamburger recently that was grilled by a neighbor of mine. Both not only tasted great, but several days have passed and I haven't felt sick at all.

"...Greatly expand irradiation of raw hamburger and other high-risk products."

This is the only suggestion I take issue with. Not because I'm afraid of irradation, but rather because I think it will lead to lax sanitation up the line. 'Eh, it's tainted, but that's OK, the radiation will kill it, so who cares?'

My suggestion is more in line with Bob Hoyle's comment - we need to think smaller. We're in this mess partially because cows are supposed to eat grass, not grain and chicken manure. We're the consumers - we have a choice. ConAgra, ADM, IBP - I'm doing everything I can think of to tell my family and friends about the dangers of agribusiness ground beef.
