The Lincoln Star Journal reports that the Salmonella outbreak that sickened 17 with one likely killed at the 62-bed Blue Hill Care Center appears nearly over.

Initial fears that the bacterium involved at the 62-bed Blue Hill Care Center might be a Newport strain resistant to a broad range of antibiotics were receding by Thursday afternoon, said Michele Bever, executive director of the South Heartland District Health Department in Hastings. The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services still was working toward a final determination on the effectiveness of antibiotics against the bacterial strain Thursday.
