Screen Shot 2011-09-15 at 7.31.21 PM.pngKaren Herzog of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel jumps back into the E. coli (she has done I too many times before) fray as she reports that one person has died, and eight other have E. coli O157:H7 illnesses in Green County – some of the nine are in the same family.

Three people have been hospitalized since the first illnesses were reported in mid-August. One of the three did not have the complication hemolytic uremic syndrome, which attacks the kidneys and red blood cells and is a potentially fatal form of kidney failure.

The Capital Times on Wednesday reported the outbreak’s one death as a 20-month-old child who died Sunday at UW Children’s Hospital in Madison. State officials have declined to confirm that, or to give any other information about the person who died, citing federal privacy rules.

Illnesses reportedly have been scattered around Green County.
